GRADUATE STUDIES IN NUTRITION
M.Sc. Program
COMBINE A STRONG ACADEMIC GRADUATE PROGRAM WITH PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE IN THE PORK INDUSTRY
The Prairie swine Centre, a non-profit corporation affiliated with the University of Saskatchewan and located near Saskatoon, Saskatchewan Canada currently has openings for studies in swine nutrition leading to a M.Sc.
Specific areas of study include:
- energy metabolism in grow-finish pigs
- effect of processing on the nutritional value of field peas
- energy metabolism during lactation
All projects will require combinations of animal work in the barn, conducted at the Prairie Swine Centre, and laboratory work, on campus at the University of Saskatchewan.
For entrance into the M.Sc. program, successful applicants will have a B.Sc. in animal science or a related discipline. Applicants must meet the entrance requirements of the College of Graduate Studies and Research at the University of Saskatchewan. They require strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills, and have the intent to work as a member of a research team. Competitive financial assistance is available in the form of a stipend (Graduate Research Assistantship).
The Prairie Swine Centre represents a unique approach to research and technology transfer, maintaining strong linkages with the pork industry while continuing an emphasis on quality academic endeavour. Active in research, education, and technology transfer the Centre operates a 280 sow farrow-to-finish research herd with extensive surgery, metabolism and intensive research facilities. New gestation and sow housing opened in May 2008. Students are provided with office space, including access to computer facilities. The nutrition research program is part of a broader research program at the Centre that includes engineering and applied ethology.
